Saturday 19th October
Visit to the two Cathedrals in Liverpool, including Anniversary Recital

A day in Liverpool including the 93rd Anniversary Recital at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral.

11:30am - 1:00pm: An opportunity to play the recently-restored Walker organ of Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral

1:15pm - 2:30pm: Lunch (eat at the Philharmonic pub, Hope Street, or make your own arrangements)

2:30pm - 3:00pm: Gather at Liverpool Cathedral for
3:00pm onwards: Evensong, followed immediately by the 93rd Anniversary Recital. We will meet Professor Ian Tracey after the recital for a brief talk about the organ.

The visit to Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral and Evensong at Liverpool Cathedral are free of charge. Admission to the Anniversary Recital is £15; this will be reduced to £10 if ten or more of us attend.

Masterclass with William Whitehead

St Joseph's Church, West Gate, Wetherby, LS22 6LL

Join us at St. Joseph’s church for a masterclass with William Whitehead on the organ music of J. S. Bach. You are welcome to attend as an active participant or as an observer. There are five places available (30 minutes each) for participants on a first come first served basis.

If you wish to be an active participant, please contact Graham Barber as soon as possible with your proposed repertoire.

The organ is a charming two-manual and pedal organ by Peter Collins with responsive tracker action (two manuals and pedal, 11 stops).

This event is arranged with the kind assistance of Leeds Leisure Services, for which we are very grateful.

William will also give the lunchtime recital at St Anne's Cathedral in Leeds on Monday 4th November. Details of the recital are on the Leeds Concert Season website here.

Hymn-playing class with Dr. John Kitchen

Lidgett Park Methodist Church, Lidgett Place, Roundhay, Leeds LS8 1HG

Dr. John Kitchen (Edinburgh) will give a class on hymn-playing. John has asked us to assemble a congregation of hymn-singers for the event. David Wilks is mobilising his choir, and members are welcome to join in singing with the choir.

 

We also have a place or two for members to play a hymn, accompanying the choir.

 

If you would like to take part, as an active participant in the hymn-playing class, as a singer, or to listen. please reply to this email stating which you would prefer.

 

As ever, all are welcome, whether members of the Association or not. Light refreshments will be available.

Visit to Kendal (joint event with Edinburgh Society of Organists)

We have been invited to join the Edinburgh Society of Organists on a visit to Kendal The visit will highlight the work of the former Kendal firm of Wilkinson and Sons who did much quality work, almost all within the local area.

Itinerary:

 

12.30 – 2.00pm: St Peter’s Church, Heversham (Wilkinson organ) - organ information
3.00pm – 4.30pm: St George’s Church, Kendal (Wilkinson organ) - organ information
4.45pm – 6.30pm: Holy Trinity Church, Kendal, also known as Kendal Parish Church, (Willis/Walker main organ - organ information and Bevington organ - organ information)

 

Refreshments will be provided at St Peter’s Church and Holy Trinity Church (the first and final venues).

 

For those travelling by train to Kendal, lifts have kindly been offered between Oxenholme station to Heversham, and transport from Heversham back to Kendal will also be available.

LOA Social Event

Castle Grove Masonic Hall, Castle Grove Drive, Moor Road, Headingley, Leeds LS6 4BP

Join the LOA committee and members of the Wakefield and District Organists' Association for a social event, including open console in the Lodge temple with its two-manual Abbott and Smith organ.
Tea and coffee will be served on arrival, and a light lunch will be available.
