Annual General Meeting and Lunch

Sandmoor Golf Club, Alwoodley Lane, Leeds LS17 7DJ

Our Annual General Meeting will be held in-person this year on Saturday 3rd February at Sandmoor Golf Club. We are delighted to welcome Dr. David Baker as our guest speaker. David is Director or the Halifax Organ Academy and a tutor at the RCO/St Giles International Organ School.


10:30am onwards - arrive at Sandmoor Golf Club for an 11:00 start
11:00am - AGM
12:00pm to 12:30pm - pre-dinner drinks and socialising
12:30pm - lunch, followed by David's talk Whither, or wither, the pipe organ in 21st-century Britain?

Members should have received further information and booking details for the lunch by email.

Friday 17th March, from 11:00am to 9:00pm
Visit to Saltaire

Various locations including Saltaire URC and Victoria Hall, Saltaire

A visit to Saltaire to visit Salt's Gallery and hear/play the organ of Saltaire URC, followed by discounted admission to hear Jonathan Eyre accompany the 1927 silent movie Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans at Victoria Hall.

11.00am: Canal Walk (Meet at Saltaire railway station)
1.00pm:  Packed lunch, or Café lunch for those who prefer
2.00pm:  Visit Salts Mill (1853 Gallery including David Hockney permanent exhibition) Possible add-on visit to the Early Music Shop on Victoria Road
4.00pm to 5.30pm: Visit Saltaire URC Church and its Conacher Organ  (specification here)
Introduction to the organ (John Chapman), and opportunity for members to play.
c. 5.45 pm Dinner at a local restaurant

7.30 p.m. Silent Movie: Jonathan Eyre improvises an organ score on the Victoria Hall Wurlitzer to accompany the film Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927 German expressionist film directed by F. W. Murnau)
at Saltaire Victoria Hall (admission £12, reduced to £10 for LOA members)

Easter Monday, 10th April, 11:00am
Bank Holiday Recital followed by President's Reception

St Bartholomew's Church, Wesley Road, Armley, Leeds LS12 1SR

Our new President, Graham Barber, will play the Easter Monday concert on the Schulze organ of St. Bartholomew's at 11:00. LOA members receive free admission to this concert. Graham will host a President's Reception for LOA members after the concert where hot and cold drinks and light snacks will be served.
Members are welcome to stay on to play the organ after the Reception, subject to booking with Graham prior to the day on graham.barber1@btinternet.com.

Reger Masterclass with Dr. Eleni Keventsidou

St Aidan's Church, Elford Place West, Harehills, Leeds LS8 5QD

Join us at St. Aidan's church for a masterclass with Dr. Eleni Keventsidou on the organ music of Max Reger. Members are invited to join as active participants, and are also welcome to join as observers. Please contact us by email if you would like to take part. For active participants, practice time will be available between 12:00pm and 1:30pm; the masterclass will start at 1:30pm.

The Latin Church Music of Edward Elgar

​Castle Grove Masonic Hall, Moor Road, Headingley, Leeds, LS6 4BP

Dr. Simon Lindley, LOA Past President and formerly Master of the Music at Leeds Minster, will speak about Edward Elgar's Latin church music, which features in an anthology of church anthems by Elgar, edited by the late Donald Hunt, who was Simon's predecessor at Leeds before being appointed Master of Choristers and Organist of Worcester Cathedral.
